Giving Back to Your Family and Friends


Beyond regular check-ups and a healthy lifestyle that encompasses adequate sleep, a high-quality diet and plenty of exercise, there is one other  incredibly important aspect of our lives that we must fulfill: The need to be surrounded by people who support, care about and love us. Filling your life with positive-minded people who stick around through your low moments and celebrate the outstanding ones with you is essential. As the lyrics from the famous song by The Beatles state: “I get by with a little help from my friends.”

This year The Specific Chiropractic Center is celebrating our annual Friends & Family Week with a few suggestions on how you can give back to those who have stuck with you throughout your quest to live a long, healthy and happy life.

For Mom … She raised you, and that was stressful enough, wasn’t it? Help Mom unwind with a spa package that requires someone else to do the work for once. Toss in a massage, let her get a manicure, encourage her to soak in the sauna and don’t let her come home until she’s been completely pampered.

For Dad … Combine some physical activity with the chance to bond over a leisurely game of golf. If you can handle it, opt to walk the course instead of riding in a cart. This is a great way to put a few miles on your feet and stretch out the afternoon at the same time.

For Sister … Sign the two of you up for a joint cooking class. Ranging from a couple hours to a full day, these culinary crash courses offer a fun way to catch up while you mix, stir and taste your way through a delicious meal, which you can both share with others when you get home.

For Brother … Take a blast to the past and revisit some of your choice activities as kid. Dig up a fishing pole or find a hiking trail that reminds you of one that the two of you wandered over hundreds of times in your younger years. Of course, as you get some fresh air, don’t forget to muse over some of your favorite childhood memories.

For Spouse … Give the love of your life a day off—he or she certainly deserves it! For just one day, take the initiative to mow the lawn, fold the laundry and wash the dishes. Of course, you can both walk the dog together. It wouldn’t hurt if you both got a touch of exercise while spending time with the furry four-legged member of the family.

For Best Girl Friend … Try something different and give that new class at the gym a go. Perhaps the two of you have been talking about taking belly dancing or zumba, or maybe you want to pick up a martial art. When trying something new, it’s always nice to have some moral support, so jump into that new athletic endeavor together.

For Best Guy Friend … Have a healthy laugh and rent a bunch of your favorite films from your younger years. Prep some popcorn, cancel all of those work appointments that keep you both occupied and dive into a stack of movies that will keep you reminiscing throughout the evening.
